Uniquely Singapore 5 - Bugis + Geylang
Wow, I din realize i have so much to write about my Singapore trip. I am now writing part 5. COOL ! or You have started to feel boring?
After the tour to Esplanade, it’s time for a little hi-tea session. We went to Bugis.
Out of so many choices,

Caker and Jim suggested this Hong Kong Style Cafe - Tong Sui Restaurant.

The interior was so 60-70’s chinese style.

We just ordered some snacks, sat down and relax.

Chicken Wings

French Fries With Baked Cheese

Chu Cheong Fun, Fried Egg with Hotdog

Chu Cheong Fun, Fried Egg with Fried Wan Tan
I dont know why they must put the ‘green vege’ on top of those food. It seems so not-related to the food. Did not look good also.

Coffee Cincau
Journey continue with shopping. We went to Bugis street for little shopping. Brought some shirts. Saw a lot of things, and was so tempted to do pedicure. Haha. Bugis Street was like Malaysia’s Petaling Street. But better environment. Things were cheap there.

Tourist’s spot, again. Come on, we were TOURIST. Needed i mention again?

This ICON was like some focus point of all street fashions. Quite Hong Kong Style.
Mr Yam has been companying us whole day (shopping) and did not complain a word. He was such a nice guy. He was the kind of guy that “as long as you all happy, i am happy”. Oh, he was same kampong as Caker. He will be quite a main cast in this post later.
Happily done our little shopping, Mr Yam brought us to Geylang for the Famous Tin Gai Zuk (Frog Porridge). It was located at Lorong 9. Geylang also famous with other thing. Will tell you shortly.
Oh ya, eat again. Sound like my Singapore trip was all about eating. Caker said he already brought us to eat all Singapore famous food. And this Geylang Frog porridge will be the last.

Waiting for our order…..

Gong Bou Tin Gai. - Spicy One

Porridge

Geong Chung Tin Gai - Ginger & Spring Onion

Fried Oyster
Basically the frog and porridge taste very good. Ginger & Spring Onion one taste the same as the Gong Bou (spicy), the only different was it was not spicy. I like the spicy one better.
Porrdige + drink + Fried oyster = SGD 48.80
Well, pretty average price. I was satisfied with this dinner.
Remember that I just said that Geylang famous with other thing? Yes, Geylang was like Malaysia’s Chow Kit.
Since I was there, off cause we must take a look of how the businesses were ‘running’ there.
Mr Yam, again, being our tour guide. He was pretty familiar with every single corner here. He said he was the ‘Geylang tour guide’ everytime he has friends came to Singapore. He was only working at Singapore for 2 years, compare to Caker who worked there for 3 years + and ‘pretend’ not familiar with the road. Oh, no.. i did not say anything about “Regular Customer” ok?
This area was the famous ‘red light district’. Not only you’ll see a lot of MAN and woman, you will see a lot of hotels & brothels too. Some ‘chiqs’ were illegal, which means they were not permitted to do business in Singapore. Oh, FYI, prostitution in Singapore was LEGAL.
You can find a lot of information about this ‘red light district’ here.
Back to our journey, Mr Yam brought us from one corner to another corner, introducing which area was belongs to China, Indonesia, Thailand, etc etc etc…
There was chiq standing at the street every 3 steps. No kidding. The streets full of people. Those chiqs were dressing sexily, shirt skirt, deep V, half cup. See until your eyes also pop out. Haha.
Those chiqs were literally pull you closer to them and asking you for a f*ck.
“Hey handsome, come on!”
“Go where?”
“Go hotel la, where else?”
“How much?”
“Aiya, cheap cheap only la, SGD60″
Prices were depends on area and the origin of the country. Basically, china dolls were more expensive than indonesia one.
How do I know? Mr Yam was ‘regular customer tour guide’ here what.
While we were walking, Mr Yam was pulled away twice!! Those chiqs know who to pull, I tell u! Mr Yam must be looking damn familiar to them….. KEKEKE!!!
A lot of uncles and ah pek walking around, asking the price. Those chiqs who standing at the streets, were normally illegal one. Those IN the brothel, were legal one. Visit the website i gave earlier for better understanding.
I like those chinese dolls. They were all quite pretty, fair skins (average).
Well, at the end, no one went away quietly. Hehehe…
This Geylang tour was bonus, if you were asking me to walk around at chowkit, I guess I rather die. But i had ‘eye opened’ for this Geylang tour.
If you would like to contact Mr Yam for this tour, tell me. :p
(No pictures were taken during the Geylang tour, i dont dare to take anyway.)

Your friend Mr Yam must look very naughty to attract so much attention!
Haha.
(kidding! Pls don’t be angry!)
:)
In every country, there will be some sort of “Chow Kit” area, I guess - some more “high class” and others more “low class”….
It’s as simple as this: Where there is a demand, there will be a supply…
Don’t you think so?

hmmm….. geylang… not only for its frog porridge + raw chicken u know….
also got claypot chicken :)
Have to call up to reserve the claypot (table + rice - for early cooking)
More tastier than the raw chicken that you saw, but definitely darker due to the dark soy sauce.
cely
on November 7th, 2006
neo: ahhaa… as i said before.. take a cab.. they will definitely bring u there.. :p
jason: Hmm.. u seems very familiar there too.. are u singaporean ?
The next time i go, i will try the claypot chicken~ thanks for recommending.
Jason
on November 8th, 2006
Nope, not singaporean. Am malaysian same like ur 2 friends working in sg.
Btw, am familiar there coz i always go there with my friends for good foods.
*AHEM not that kind of pah cham kai….food
Things to note: Singapore only have 2-3 spots that is not so “dead” after the sun decided to sleep. Geylang is the de-facto place for those late supper hangout place + good food (chinese)
Unless you are looking at malay food located at the jalan kayu or even arab street .. (Roti Prata / Murtabak) then this is the place to go.
cely
on November 8th, 2006
