Thick Skin Beggars
There was one night, I was having a supper with friends at KTZ (记得食) Jalan Imbi, there came 1 indian mommy with her daughter, begging for money. They were rude and talk really loud.
They went from table to table, finally they reached our table.
The Mommy: “Tolonglah, bagi duit sikit.” (“Please-lah, gimme money.”)
While her daughter kept looking at our food, even point at the food and asked us “Apa ni? Mana beli?” (“What’s that? Where to buy?”)
We kept on turning our head indicates that we will not give her money, she walked away but left us a message “Lu orang boleh makan, anak saya tak boleh makan?” (“You people are eating, and my daughter is not eating.”)
Ok, i feel the ouch. I know she was desperately needed the food. But I don’t know why, it’s not something that I will pity on these people who physically perfect. I believe they can at least work and earn the money. Moreover they are rude. Marks deducted, no more sympathy to them.
They then went on and on at all the tables, finally there were 2 uncles agreed to treat them a meal. They run their way to the counter and ordered the food, basically all the food that they can see.

They point at the menu, “Ini, ini, ini pun mau, ini…dan ini” (“This, this, this also want, this.. and this”)

Yes, they were desperate already. While waiting for the food to be pack, her daughter shamelessly went to the table nearby and took customers’ tissues away then went to another table playing with people’s leftover food.
The Manager saw her doing that, she finally raise her voice over the Mommy, and warned her not to come “AGAIN” because they were disturbing the customers. Indeed, they were really disturbing the customers. The kid went to table there and take away people’s tissue. What was she thinking?

After the manager warned the mommy, the mommy immediately pull her daughter and raise her tone and lecture her in Tamil (off coz). They were really getting a lot of attention already. Everyone was looking at them.
I suppose all the beggars are thick-skin. They have put aside their dignity. They are harmless (most of the time) but certainly annoying. Afterall, you donate or not, you scold or not, you ignore them or not, they have nothing to lose.

I disrespect perfectly healthy beggars too, and these 2 shouldn’t have done what they did. But having said that, it’s all about self esteem issues. The funny ones I encounter were in Bangsar where “blind” beggars go from table to table while speaking on his mobile. That was hilarious! Still, even if a beggar shouts, I try not to retaliate. I wasn’t brought up that way. :-)

daniel: The blind beggar , i salute him! Haha.. I think they were “working” that time la, surely some big organization behind them…

Yes, as hard as we don’t want to react to beggars who can drive us mad, we should always put ourselves in their shoes. It’s easier to judge them from where we’re standing. There may be valid reasons to why they are what they are. My opinion. :-)

haha, this people they have problems – try to be compassionate, yes if you ask for meal, i might even ask you to join me, but no if you ask for money, coz i give you a meal, it can you through out the day, i give youumoney you might go get yourself some samsu or get yourself high with a quick fix …
once i saw this guy, who went asked how much was it for a plate of chicken rice, he didnt had enough, so i told the boss, to give him a pack and i will pay for it … i then invited him over to our table, he said no and he had the pack of rice outside the restaurant.
its ok if you ask for a meal … but dont come asking me for money.

There were once i got scolded by the beggar in ss2 “wai sik gai” because i didn’t want to give her money…
I don’t like them. Why wouldn’t they just get a job? They’re so lazy and rude, and yet want me to pay my “blood sweat money” to them?? No way!!!

this kinda beggar issue is really hard to eliminate la. there will always be this kinda people. I give them based on my “generosity index”. but i definitely won’t pay if i am eating. furthermore, they dun need to come to me, if i wanna donate, i will go to them, no need they find me.

my grandad lost his right leg and raised my father and his for siblings without resorting to begging. So I will never give money or whatever to beggars who still can walk properly.

Cely, GTA stands for Grand Theft Auto. It’s a game you will love if you’re being too stressful (with all these people) in real life. Trust me. You’ll love it. Hehe. :P
