Stupid Mistake
Yesterday early morning I woke up at 7am. It’s not normal that I woke up that early, because I need to go to ICA to extend my stay at Singapore without going back Malaysia. I’ve been staying in Singapore for 14 days already, by law, I should really ‘go out’ of Singapore, but then I still need to stay at Singapore, therefore Caker suggested us to go ICA to extend our stay as social visit. Everyone also suggest us to do the same thing.
There we go. The ICA building is located at right opposite of Lavender Station. It was not hard to find and the officers there were efficient and attentive.
We queued up for numbers and wait for our turn. Very fast, within 10mins, we were called by the officer.
“I would like to extend my stay for another 2 weeks, officer.”
“Your stay for this trip is until 24th August, you cant extend your stay unless you have relative to support you.”
“Ha? till 24th August? Means by 24th I have to leave?” I thought ‘today’ was my last day of staying in Singapore.
“Yes, it was stated clearly here. You are permitted to stay in Singapore for thirty days from the date you came in.” The officer pointed me to the chop in my passport.
“Oh okay.”
The whole conversation took only 2 minutes. Hongkiat looked at me and laughed.
Eh, I did read that in the passport, but my mindset was only 2 weeks of stay. No one notice the chop in the passport.

No one know about this 30days thingie, the Singaporean, the PR, my friends all did not know about this. Last year October we came Singapore, we only allow to stay for 14days. Law changed this year, to 30days.
So don’t make the same stupid mistake I made. Don’t go ask for extension when it is not necessary. Hehe.
Caker and Jim: “SOHAI you both! HAHAHA!”

An access card facilitates immigration clearance. At the Singapore checkpoint, if travelling by foot, you don’t have to waste time queuing at the Malaysian queue. All you have to do is to insert the access card (light blue colour one) and place your thumb in the scanner at the access card queue and you are good to go.
If you are travelling by car, you just have to give the immigration officer your passport and your “other” access card (yellow colour one) instead of filling up the white card. Your passport will not be chopped, so you save passport pages.
You can apply for access card at ICA for a small fee.
Hope this helps Cely.

Cely, you don’t need a Singapore Employment Pass or need to be a Singapore Permanent Resident to apply for an Access Card. I am neither an EP holder nor a PR, yet I was able to apply for one.
I find the access card to be very convenient, no more long queues or white card filling, plus best of all you save passport pages. We all know how expensive Malaysian passports are.

andy: haha, i know, but this is quite stupid.
easyriderlovescs: Really? Okay then.. I will go check that out. Thanks for the info. My fren have this access card, but he told me only PR or with EP can apply.
