Yesterday, I went for a short trip to Batam with my lovely colleagues. An all-girls outing. Thanks to the organizer Novi.
Where is Batam?
One hour ferry trip from Harbour front, Singapore. A small island in Indonesia.
Novi, our organizer pre-book the ferry tickets (and coach) 1 week before the trip. Everyone woke up really early to take the ferry at 8.40am. We were meeting at Harbour front at around 8am.
The Ferry took off right on schedule.
No surprise, we camwhore a little at the ferry. Everyone was going to Batam for the first time except our organizer. :p
After 1 hour journey, we reached Batam! Well, there should be 11 of us, but I will tell the small incident before I end my post.
It was only about 9am (indonesia time, which is 1 hour behind Singapore) when we reach Batam. Shopping mall not open yet. We gotto wait for Novi and Amber who missed the Ferry and were on their way to Batam at the next ferry trip.
Therefore we just lepak-ing at the Batam customs there for 1 hour before we head to the massage centre.
What to do at Batam?
Massaging was the main purpose of the whole trip.
After Novi and Amber arrived, we quickly went on to the coach and head to the massage centre. We didn’t wanna mess up further with the initial itinerary which we had already missed one event (Famous fish soup as our breakfast).
Actually, no photo taking in the massage centre one. So I didn’t take much. We all opt for the massage and scrub. It took approximately 90 minutes to finish whole process.
It was long, but quite okay la the service. After the massage and scrub, we were all treated a cup of tea (coffee, tea and ginger tea), free of charge.
The massage cost me RP200.000 (200k), which is equivalent to SGD28.82. I know it’s nothing cheaper than what we had in Bangkok, but come on… this is a lot nearer to Bangkok. :p
After massage, we went to Nagoya Mall for lunch. The first meal of the day. Everyone was starving!
Nagoya Mall seems like central market to me.
What to eat at Batam?
Apa lagi? Ayam Penyet la!
The famous Ayam Penyet. Look, they have a lot of branches.
Their menu, roughly give you the idea of how other place has over charge you for the same ayam penyet. Hahaha. RP 12.000 (12k) was below SGD2. The conversion rate is SGD 1 to RP 6940. I had ayam penyet at singapore for SGD 6.50.
Sayur Asem – a soup with vegetable. Sour soup, cabbage, dragon fruit, corn, etc.
Ayam Penyet. The chilli was fantastic!
Pecel – Mixed vegetable with peanut gravy. Taste very good.
Cute Etza. She is Indonesian Chinese.
Pempek – made from fish. It taste a bit like leko leko to me.
What to buy at Batam?
If you are looking for cheap and cute printing t-shirts, there you go. Slightly less than SGD 3 per t-shirt. Well, I didn’t buy any of these, totally not my style. :) But these young ladies were totally crazy about those t-shirts.
Big shopping mall. But nothing I am attracted to except the food and off coz the ‘Chitato’ potato chips!
This was our second mission going to Batam. To buy a lot of Chitato!
I mean, really a lot. I think in total, each of us a least grabbed 4 big bag of the chitato. Oh, and a lot of Indo mee which we can’t find in Singapore. Hahaha.
End up I spent less than SGD20 for those potatochips and Indo mee. I grabbed 5 big bag potato chips, 15 pack indomee and 3 hello panda. Well, it does not sound cheap but at least I cant get this at Singapore. :p I am satisfied.
The outside look of Nagoya Mall.
What else to buy at Batam?
Well, besides cheap and cute printing t-shirt and Chitato, you can buy all the fake branded bags! Coach, LV, Gucci with a lot of designs which you are not going to find at the retail shop.
Definitely at a very cheap price. Probably less than SGD30.
What else to eat at Batam?
Seafood! Very Cheap!
Actually, we were suppose to eat seafood. But due to the rush, we only able to order food that doesn’t have any shell, in order words, we cant have crabs and prawn! How sad.
This stall open at 6pm (indonesia time). Our ferry will leave at 7.50pm. We gotto check in at least 30 minutes before departure. That means we only got about 1 hour for dinner.
That’s why we ordered fried chicken with garlic.
CALAMARI. Okay, one the seafood.
There was another fried fish which I forgot to snap a picture.
The food was alright. Nothing special. Probably I am disappointed because we don’t have crabs and prawns.
The whole meal was damn cheap. It was only RP26.000 (SGD 3.74).
After the dinner, we rushed to the Ferry terminal. We still have about 10 minutes before we check in.
Everyone carried at least 3 bag of their own stuff. Haha! Importing the chitato into Singapore.
I was damn tiring towards the end of the trip. Just when I thought everyone should be pretty tired already, there were 3 young ladies talked and laughed non-stop during the whole ferry trip.
We reached Harbour Front, Singapore at around 10pm. Feeling exhausted already.
Overall, the trip was fun with the girls. Batam was a great place to spend on massage and food. But definitely not a shopping place and sight-seeing for me. I am happy that the whole journey was pleasant.
The itinerary was distributed to everyone at least 3 days before the trip. We all were well-aware of the meeting point and time.
The unbelievable Amber, she must be on her own world, thinking that ferry leaves at 8.40am, she just need to be there around 8.40am. Everyone was so nervous when she is nowhere to be seen when it’s 8am. She was still on her way coming to harbour front.
The gate closed at 8.25am. Novi decided to wait for her, we all fast fast check in to the terminal. Time reported was 8.20am.
When everyone (except Novi and Amber) found the seat in ferry, Novi sent us sms saying they can’t make it. They were not allowed to board the ferry. Amber was 5 minutes late.
So we have to leave without the 2 of them. Yes, totally was Amber’s fault.
Well, what’s lucky was that, they can exchange the ferry ticket and board the next ferry at 9.40am. Therefore they will be late for 1 hour, also everyone loss 1 hour time, also we can’t eat the famous fish soup which only open at morning as we planned in the itinerary.
ALL due to AMBER’s FAULT!
What impressed me was, Novi. She was so responsible and sacrifice herself to wait for Amber. A great organizer. Guess what, she was the only one who been to Batam. All of us has no idea what to do and where to go at Batam. She was the one who plan the itinerary.
